About Stress
Stress is a
physical and emotional reaction to the thoughts that
we think. How we choose to perceive the
people, conditions, and situations in our lives can
either can either help... or hurt us.
Whenever you
get upset in some way (scared, frustrated, angry, sad,
anxious, etc.), your brain is triggered to load stress
hormones into your body. When that happens, you may feel
"wired" all of a sudden, your heart may beat faster,
your palms sweat, your breathing shallows, your throat
dries and constricts, or you may feel like you have
knots in your stomach.
You may have
heard this bodily reaction referred to as the "fight
or flight" response. Nature has instilled in
us a perfect warning system, meant to keep us from harm.
Our job is to pay attention to these
uncomfortable feelings so that we can discern what to do
about them and then ACT on our conclusions.
Do you
need to run or fight against something? With a
stress-triggered response, you have the energy and
adrenaline to do that immediately.
Do you
have an impending test, public speech, job
interview, or difficult confrontation? Those
feelings give you the awareness and energy to begin
preparing for it immediately.
Are you
about to do something that you know is wrong?
Your feelings can help you avoid the situation and
therefore its consequences.
Did you
neglect to do something that you know you should
have? The discomfort you feel will help
prevent the same occurrence later.
As you can
see, when we pay attention and act accordingly,
stress does play a very important role in our lives.
But sometimes, we feel stressed for reasons that we
miss, shrug off, or don't want to acknowledge.
We've been under the influence of our thoughts for so
long, that we're not aware of the general tone of
our thinking any longer!
These
thoughts and feelings can run as "undercurrents" in our
lives everyday, putting us under chronic (ongoing)
stress. This stress undercurrent not only
affects our experience of our personal world daily, but
can eventually harm us physically.
What Kinds of Thoughts
Cause Stress?
Fear is
usually at the basis of thoughts that trigger stressful
emotions. Some forms of fear are worry, jealousy,
paranoia, and envy.
Underlying
fear may cause you to:
- Jump to
erroneous conclusions;
- Exaggerate;
- Boast;
- Worry
excessively about what others are thinking;
- Dwell on
the worst of what "might" happen;
- Dwell on
losing anything (a job, a lover, friend,
possession, "face");
- Feel and
act as if you have no power or control over your
life;
- And
more... this list is by no means inclusive, but
meant to provide an overall "picture".

I first tried EzNewYou.com a few weeks ago. My job
situation had, with my help, created much stress and
considerable anxiety. When I watched and experienced the

Take a few moments to sit back, relax, and

and exhale slowly out through your mouth.

Simply repeat the affirmations to yourself

twice daily (shortly after awakening in the
morning and right before bed are ideal).
